On the assassination of our colleague Andrey Karlov
On 19 December the Russian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Turkey, H.E. Mr. Andrey Karlov, was killed in the result of the terrorist attack.
We utterly condemn this inhumane crime aimed at ruining the collective effort to the soonest possible political settlement in Syria as well as the recent normalization of the Russia-Turkey relations. This tragedy obliges us to put even more effort in a fight against terrorism in all its forms.
The Consulate General expresses the deepest condolences to the relatives and friends of Mr. Karlov. The memory of this outstanding Russian diplomat will remain in the hearts of all who knew him forever.
Andrey Karlov was born in 1954 in Moscow. In 1976 he graduated from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations and started his diplomatic career, in 1992 from Diplomatic Academy. He worked on different positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the USSR and Russia, as well as foreign missions.
1979 – 1984 and 1986 – 1991 – Embassy of the USSR to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea
1992 – 1997 – Embassy of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Korea
2001 - 2006 – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.
2007 - 2013 – Deputy Director General, Director General for Consular Affairs.
Since July 2013 – Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Turkey.
Mr. Karlov had the rank of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary. Ambassador Karlov was married and had a son.
